Fall 2012 Newsletter

On July 6, 2012, President Obama signed MAP 21 into law. The action ended the need for additional continuing resolutions and set an implementation date of October 1^st for elements of the new law to take effect.

At the recent State Transportation Partnerships Conference, sponsored in part by APTA and CTAA, Frank Sharpless, representing NMDOT, and I heard that the Federal Transit Administration is working on guidance that will soon be provided to local transit operators, and the state DOT’s who oversee many such operations, regarding how the new law will be implemented during the coming years of its term which ends on September 30, 2014. Purpose of course:  
This class will provide transit agencies with easy to understand tools to implement, strategies and suggestions to help participants accurately know their fully allocated costs; prepare accurate budgets; evaluate their transit system’s performance; improve decision making on a day-to-day basis and for future planning; and develop tracking mechanisms that can provide important information for managing transit operations.
